zeze Lucky Orange Cat Toy — Plush Orange with Silvervine Stick, Catnip & Valerian

zeze Lucky Orange Cat Toy — Plush Orange with Silvervine Stick, Catnip & Valerian

Silvervine Stick · Catnip & Valerian Root · Pearl Velvet

In Chinese this toy is called Da Ju Da Li, a play on a New Year blessing for good luck, because the word for a mandarin orange sounds like the word for luck. So it is a small round orange in pearl velvet, with rosy cheeks, a stitched smile, two little brown arms and a green leaf.

Inside, alongside the polyester fibre, are catnip and valerian root, and a silvervine stick forms the stalk. Silvervine is the dried stem of a climbing plant from East Asia, known in Japan as matatabi. Many cats react to it with rolling, rubbing and chewing, including some who ignore catnip, though not every cat does.

Having three plant scents in one toy gives a cat more than one way in. At 11 cm tall it is easy to hug, bite and kick.
